Semi-precious gemstones have may different features and there is a lot of information concerning the properties of these gemstones. These stones have different properties: physical and spiritual. They are necessary for creating calming atmosphere and harmony our planet and us.

Semi-precious stones are classified according to the three main properties:
Hardness

Cleavage

Streak.

The scale that measures the hardness of the stone can be from 1 to 10 (1 can be scratch with your fingernail, like talc, to 10, like Diamond which is known as a very hard stone). This scale was created by a very observant person called Freiedrich Mohs, who lived in Austria (1773 to 1839).

The cleavage is the ability of the mineral to split in defined planes, creating smooth surfaces. Cleavage can be of different types: perfect, imperfect, distinct, good, fair and poor

Streak. To display the true color of gemstone it is streaking on a rough porcelain plate. The resulting power is called the streak colour of a mineral. For instance, the streak of Rose quartz is white and the streak of  Pyrite (false gold ) is black.

Physical properties of rose quartz
Rose quartz is one of the most widespread chemical compounds (Silcon Dioxide (SiO2)). The impurities of titanium give the pink coloring to the stone. Rose quartz can be found everywhere around the planet. The largest deposits can be found in Brazil, South Africa and Namibia. There are also other stones that belong to the quartz group: Agate, Amethyst, Carnelian, Onyx, Opal, Rock Crystal, Smoky quartz and others. Pure quartz is colourless or white. Because of impurities the stone has low thermal coefficient of expansion. It has the ability to withstand different temperatures. It can be used for creating things which are subject to wide range of heat and cold. Quartz doesn’t have the ability to absorb infrared or ultraviolet light.

Hardness of quartz: 7

Cleavage: rose quartz has not cleavage. You can get unpredictable result if you hit the stone from any angle. 

Streak of this stone: white.

Spiritual properties of rose quartz
This stone is also known as the "Love Stone." As a stone of unconditional love it has the ability to open the heart Chakra to all forms of love like self-love, family love or romantic love. It is very helpful for people that have trouble loving themselves or accepting love from other as well as for many other reasons. This stone is involved in love spells and has the ability to attract love.
